Tarot

”I am the deck of Tarot, if you know me you know yourself and you are free” –about the nature of Tarot, Ilse Holm-

The deck of Tarot has a 500 year long history by now as well as a wide spread variation in applications. Their origin has been traced to the courts of Italy back in the 14th century. To a time when Astrology and Alchemy was highly valued by the social upper class. It is not known who or where exactly the structure of the deck was founded, nor is it known what knowledge and wisdom lay behind their birth.

In my now 14 years of study and research, I am confident in saying the deck of Tarot do hold the Multi-Dimensional Map of the World, not as much in the separate images as in the exquisite creation of the 78 card complex, sectioned into the 56 (40+16) cards of the Minor Arcana and the 22 (21+1) cards of the Major Arcana. The Tarot, in their non-shuffled order, is like the explained character set of markings used to describe all possible terrains. The deck shuffled, cut and laid out in a spread is like a detailed section of a map unfolded, there for us to reflect our self upon.

During her still active career, my dear friend and tutor Pia Virtakallio (NLP Master, Suggestion therapist), The Grand Old Lady of Tarot in Finland, developed a method for working with the Tarot and teach their symbolic values in a very effective way. Pia Virtakallio calls her method “The therapeutic method”. In the year of 1994 I participated in one of her work shops and soon found myself as her apprentice, in training to be the one continuing her work. Since then I’ve developed a deep relationship of my own with the Tarot and the method of Pia Virtakallio’s.

Working with Tarot

Working with Tarot is an excellent tool whenever one has a need to confront oneself or need to confront the conditions of one’s life. In times of confusion working with the Tarot may help in finding the way to clarity of mind and direction. The therapeutic method is not a device for divination but it may well reflect the potential outcomes in mirroring the current conditions and directions one is focused upon.

The therapeutic method recognizes the fact that we are the creators of our lives. It consists of two parts where the first is an analytic mirroring of the conditions of the present state of being in our life and offers a non-judgmental reflection of the potential outcome if no changes are made. The second part is the actual working with the Tarot where one may redefine or clarify the goals, reveal, address and work on possible patterns of self destruction, negative expectations or other obstacles that are within the power of ones own to change.

I also give Work Whops where I teach the therapeutic method, the symbolic of Tarot, a selection of different spreads and introduction in how to read the cards together.
